The Living Wisdom Series- The Bhagavad Gita

Taught by Saraswati Barbara Haney

Shri Anandamayi Ma Ashram will offer a weekly Bhagavad Gita study class online. This class is open to everyone — whether encountering the Gita for the first time or returning to it after years of study.

Participants are encouraged to obtain an edition that includes the original Sanskrit, both Devanagari and transliteration, and English translation to support steady study. There are versions online and in book form; we suggest Winthrop Sargeant’s book The Bhagavad Gita, as it has Sanskrit transliteration, Devanagari, and English translation. Additional translations and traditional commentaries — including those of Swami Sivananda and Madhusudhana Saraswati — will also be referenced to provide depth and context.

Each session will include reading, reflection, optional chanting, and discussion. The Gita will be approached in a spirit of reverence and devotion — as sacred song — with patience, humility, and a willingness to listen inwardly as well as outwardly.

No prior experience with Sanskrit or Hindu philosophy is required. The class will continue on an open-ended basis. All are welcome.

Retreat at Ma Sharanam, in India, with Swamiji and Ramani
Jan

to Jan 30

Retreat at Ma Sharanam, in India, with Swamiji and Ramani

Swakriya Yoga Retreat with Swami Gurusharan and Ramani at Ma Sharanam

Join us January 18–30, 2026 for a 13-day retreat at Ma Sharanam Ashram during the sacred month of the Ma Kumbh. We’ll begin with a few days to rest, adjust to the time zone, and ease into the rhythm of ashram life. Then, over five days, Swamiji will offer teachings on the elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether — aligning with powerful festivals like Saraswati Jayanti and Narmada Jayanti. Each day will include morning and evening classes with Swamiji, opportunities for darshan, seva, and chanting, and gentle embodied practices with Ramani in the afternoon to deepen our connection to each element. Evenings will close with satsang, teachings, and quiet reflection. This is a beautiful opportunity to immerse ourselves in Ma’s presence, recharge, and receive clear spiritual guidance in a supportive and sacred environment.

Participants will gather with Ramani on January 18 at a hotel in Indore, our meeting place before officially traveling to the ashram together later that day. If you would like more time to rest or adjust before the retreat begins, you’re welcome to arrange your stay at the hotel for January 16 or 17.

If your heart feels the call, reach out. The cost of the retreat (not including airfare) will be $1,008, which will flow through SAMAT in its entirety to Ma Sharanam. To reserve your spot a $300 deposit will be collected at sign up. This deposit is refundable until November 30th, 2025. There will be ample opportunity to donate further to Ma Sharanam at the end of the retreat, if you are moved to do so.

To submit your payments, follow the link below.
